So I've been playing fantasy football for years. This year is different, normally I have played for bragging rights, this year...... Money... 70% of the pot on the line...20% to second place. 10% to the one with most points...so I go into the draft. Its one of them real live drafts 12 owners in the same room with a draft board. My first like this..I'm the rook coming in my first season with any of them.
First round was QB heavy something in which I had read everywhere was a bad choice...QB's flew off the board...by the end all the Running Back choices i wanted were all gone...by the luck of the draw I got the 12th pick...(and the 13th pick on the snake back...btw the pick out of the hat the draw before was the number one pick....which i really didnt want.)...So with the 12th pick I select the best receiver in the draft and then with the 13th i take in my opinion the second best receiver Now apparently no one has ever done this. I got some weird looks some whispers behind my back like I was crazy, but QB's are scored at only 4pts a TD and 1 pt every 25 yds with a bonus of 3 pts at 300yds. WR's 1 pt per 10yds 3 pts at 125yds and 6 pts for a TD. So here I am sitting with Andre Johnson and Brandon Marshall. All the running backs I wanted here gone and the next tier i had on my list was still there. So what did I have to lose?
Round three and four are coming up my next picks...Who do I take..I could take a QB here but most everyone has a starter and there is no need really...The QB I am eye-balling may be a reach so i elect to take my second tier running backs who i believe will compliment me well...I take Shonn Greene of the NY Jets and LeSean McCoy of the Philadelphia Eagles on the snake back around. Again weird looks a few comments and some whispers. Most feel LeSean McCoy being in a Andy Reid offense wont produce...I say, "Please let me introduce you to the next Ray Rice". He will get his 75-100yds rushing and catch about 50-75yds out of the backfield...and grab me a few TD's. Others think for some reason LT being a Jet means Shonn Greene wont be a viable option....He will get me 100yds a game with a TD or two. These RB's were first round picks in almost every mock draft from experts I looke dat so to get them in 3rd and 4th round feels like a steal to me.
Round fifth and Sixth are interesting rounds. This is where I grab my TE and my QB (As I call it my old-timer picks) to round out my starting roster...I select in the fifth my TE, Tony Gonzalez. Yeah I know I read the TE's were deep this year but by this time everyone had started grabbing TE's also...So Gonzalez seemed like a do-able pick. Then my QB...He may be number 4 on the jersey but hes number 1 in my heart...Brett Favre. I felt like I had been laughed out the room...the vikings preseason game was on Brett had thrown two interceptions already, but I was determined he was gonna be my guy. To round off my starters I grabbed The 49ers Defense and Nate Kaeding as a kicker in the coming rounds.
So the person I play the first week, was the most vocal about my team. My belief the more he talked the better my team was. There always has to be that one person to talk down the new guy. So I'm gonna post my team and his team. Let me know what you think....Leave me some info.
As an after thought...writing his players out made me wonder wtf is he thinking with Gresham and Nicks. I think Heap and Wallace are the better options for him. Ryan Matthews is going to be a beast, but Joseph Addai is not....I have me winning this game by a good margain if my running backs come through for em and Favre plays smart against the saints.
